The Voice I Was Given
At 13, I could out-sing my entire junior high choir—alone. My voice wasn’t just loud; it was powerful, commanding, and full of untapped potential. My choir teacher noticed. She urged my mom to find me classical voice lessons. This set me on a path that would shape my life for years to come and eventually led to my sound healing journey.

For over a decade, I trained like an athlete, perfecting arias and art songs, pouring my heart into music that felt as vast as my dreams. By college, I was chasing those dreams as a vocal performance major, ready to make my mark.
But the stage had other plans. The roles I stepped into didn’t just demand my voice—they demanded my soul. Time and again, I found myself reliving wounds I wasn’t ready to face. I played out stories of pain that mirrored my own unhealed experiences. What moved audiences broke something in me. The passion I’d once felt for performing faded, leaving me searching for another way to use my voice.
From the Stage to the Shadows
Walking away from the stage wasn’t easy. Music had been my identity, my lifeline. But every role I stepped into seemed to echo back my own unhealed wounds—wounds born from deep and painful traumas. Emotional abuse. Bullying. Molestation and incest. These weren’t just scars from the past. They were raw and ever-present, shaping how I saw myself and the world around me.
On stage, I moved audiences with the emotions I carried. However, behind the curtain, those same emotions tore me apart. I didn’t have the tools to confront the memories or the strength to hold space for my own healing. Eventually, the pain of performing outweighed the joy, and I made the hard choice to step away. In many ways, my sound healing journey had begun far before I knew I was a healer.
In the quieter world of arts administration and eventually healthcare administration and accounting, I found some relief. I could still be part of the magic of music, but from the safety of the shadows, and eventually from the sanctuary of a church pew.
Yet, the wounds I carried didn’t vanish; they only grew heavier. Traumas like these demand attention. They creep into every corner of life until they can no longer be ignored. When my life began to unravel, I realized there was only one way forward. I had to begin the work of healing.
The Turning Point: Healing My Voice
The Weight of Attention

For years, my voice—my gift—had become a source of embarrassment and discomfort. I was used to being the center of attention when I sang. Still, when my pain was at its worst, I couldn’t bring myself to sing openly. In church, I would try to keep my voice quiet, fearing that if I felt the music, others would notice. I’d disrupt the sacred space. They’d turn to look, praise my voice, and I’d shrink away, wishing I could disappear. Even in the choir, where I just wanted to sing with everyone, the stares and whispers made me an outsider. I was taking something away from the collective experience.
Karuna and A Drum Journey of Healing
Then came the turning point, during a Reiki Drumming class. In my previous work with Reiki and sound (chanting in Karuna class and in Reiki Sonics) as we began to chant Reiki frequencies together, I felt that same uncomfortable attention—the familiar sensation of being “seen” in a way that made my face burn with self-consciousness. But this time, I couldn’t shrink away. The work we were doing was meant to heal, to bring us into resonance with sound, and with the vibration of Source.
A Childhood Memory Revisited
As my first experience with a drum journey unfolded in a Reiki Drumming class, I found myself reliving a moment from my early childhood—a moment when my sister, irritated by my singing, called for our mother. I had been singing joyfully to fall asleep, but when my mom intervened, I twisted that moment into something else. It shifted from expression of joy to a childish “nyah, nyah” that my mother was on my side, not my sister’s.
Reclaiming My Voice

This powerful Reiki Drumming experience helped me reclaim my voice, not as a tool for ego, but as a channel for joy and healing. Through the vibrations, I was able to transform the pain that had bound me to a distorted relationship with sound and expression. I reclaimed my younger self. I reclaimed my innocence. No longer afraid to stand in my gift, I am free to sing authentically. Healing sound isn’t always pretty out of necessity. However, through this journey, I learned to embrace the raw beauty of the voice, free of shame and fear.
Healing my relationship with sound, my voice, and myself isn’t just about overcoming the trauma. It is about reconnecting with the joy and power of creation itself. That journey continues, but has matured to the point that I can hold space and bear witness for others on a similar path.
Embracing the Healing Power of Sound
Integrating Sound into My Work
As I healed, my voice transformed from an instrument of personal expression to a tool of transformation. No longer burdened by shame, I discovered that sound could be a conduit for healing—not just for me, but for others. I began to weave sound healing into my Reiki practice, merging my musical background with my new ability to hold space for others’ growth.

Sound became more than a medium—it became a direct healing force. From the hum of a chant to the beat of a drum, sound vibrations create a space for release and renewal. Each vibration reminds us of the power within our bodies to restore balance and harmony.
Sound Healing as Sacred Practice
As I shared these healing vibrations with others, I realized the profound impact they had on my clients. Many carried silent pain, much like I once did. Through Reiki Sound Healing, I helped them release old wounds and make space for new energy to flow. It became clear that sound could not only heal, but also empower people to reconnect with their true selves.
Whether in individual sessions or group settings, the sound I channel is not just a healing tool—it’s an invitation to transform. In creating a sacred space for others, I’ve witnessed how sound can help individuals reclaim their voices, just as I reclaimed mine.
The Gift of Sound in Group Healing
Group sessions amplify the power of sound, creating a shared energy that supports each person’s journey. The vibrations reach everyone, harmonizing and bringing comfort, insight, and release. It’s beautiful to witness a room full of individuals each experiencing their own healing while contributing to the collective energy. Sound, as part of community, offers the opportunity for growth and healing on a deeper level.
From Music to Healing: The Role of Sound in Transformation
As my relationship with my voice healed, I saw sound as more than self-expression—it became a bridge between mind, body, and spirit. Sound, alongside Reiki, has a profound potential for transformation. It aligns with universal vibrations, clears blockages, and opens paths to emotional and spiritual freedom.
The Synergy of Reiki and Sound
Reiki and sound work seamlessly together. Just as Reiki energy bypasses the mind to heal the body and spirit, sound waves do the same, communicating directly with our deepest selves. This combination helps shift our internal vibration, creating space for healing and transformation on a cellular level.

Sound as a Gateway to Altered States
For thousands of years, sound has been used to enter altered states, from shamanic drumming to sacred chants. These practices connect us to universal energy, ancestral wisdom, and higher consciousness. Sound holds the power to access parts of ourselves that are usually hidden—the subconscious, our inner knowing, and spiritual guidance.
Healing Through Vibrational Energy
In my own healing journey, sound wasn’t just about emotional release—it was about accessing deeper levels of wisdom and transformation. Whether through chanting or sound baths, Reiki and sound open doors to mystical, profound experiences. These vibrations help us release old wounds, connect with higher guidance, and facilitate emotional and spiritual healing.
Why Reiki and Sound Work for Transformation
Reiki and sound bypass the mind and the wounds stored in our bodies, creating space for healing on a deep level. They open pathways to transformation that can be mystical, emotional, or spiritual. It’s not just about releasing trauma—it’s about reconnecting with our truest selves and the divine energy that supports our growth.
